A Step Ahead of Middle Tennessee prevents unplanned pregnancies by providing education and access to free, long-acting, reversible contraception (LARC). LARC options include the hormonal arm implant, hormonal intrauterine device (IUD), or nonhormonal IUD. These provide 3 to 10 years of contraception depending on the device. Planning pregnancies contributes to better birth outcomes for mother and child, greater educational and career opportunities, reduced economic strain, and stronger families. A Step Ahead utilizes a proven client-centric, evidence-informed model to deliver access to free LARC by partnering with qualified health centers; managing an in-house call center and website for client inquiries and scheduling; covering costs for well-woman exams, including pregnancy tests, STI/HIV tests, Pap tests, and contraception consultations; providing free LARC insertion of patient’s choice; paying for door-to-door transportation to/from appointments as needed; providing free removal of the LARC device at any time.
